In our daily bible scripture, we will be reflecting on Psalm 13, looking at the phrase “how long o Lord?”. Where is our focus, when we go through afflictions and God doesn’t answer straight away, it may seem that God has forgotten us. This psalm was written by David when he was in despair with the Lord. Every child of God at some point in their life would have asked God, how long will I continue to suffer like this, how long will I have to wait for your promises to come to pass.

From my personal experience and relationship with God, it does not matter how long it takes for God to respond but I can promise you that God hears your cry and affliction and He will surely attend to you in His time.

How long O Lord

Psalm 13:1

How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will You hide Your face from me?

How long o lord

When it seems like all my efforts and work are coming to nothing, I turn to this Bible verse for inspiration from God. Reading these bible verses gives me the courage to overcome depression and despair when things fall apart all around me. When things fall apart, and I lose all motivation to continue and keep working hard, this verse is what I cry out to the Lord, asking the Lord how long until He moves and changes my circumstances.

If I didn’t have verses like this to rely on and cry out to God, I don’t think I’d be able to keep myself from slipping away into depression, discouragement, and despair. Remember, God has said that our names are written in the palm of His hands.

Isaiah 49:15-16

Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

Psalm 13:2

How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Psalm 13 - how long o lord? | faith blog

Here we see David wrestled with his thoughts and sorrow was in his heart and it seemed that the enemy was triumphing. The more he wrestled with his thoughts, the enemy seemed to be triumphing. In Corinthians 10:5, the Bible instructs us to cast down vain imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. We must take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ by speaking this very word over and over.

Trust In God

Jesus Christ has won the victory for us therefore we have already overcome. When David turned his thoughts towards the Lord, his heart rejoiced in God’s salvation as recorded in verse 5 and David trusted in God’s unfailing love. Therefore as Christians, let’s set our hearts and mind on things above where Christ is seated at the right-hand of the father and we must focus on God and trust in Him. In verse 6, David says I will sing to the Lord for He has been good to me.

There are many people out there who haven’t been able to stop themselves from slipping into depression and despair. It makes me sad that they don’t have verses like this to use as anchors for their souls, to be able to cry out to God and to have that glimmer of hope that God is faithful and won’t leave you in that place forever.

If you are suffering from depression and despair for any reason, I pray that you take encouragement from this Bible verse. Know that God won’t leave you in this state forever, and if you cry out to Him and trust that He’ll deliver you, then it’s only a matter of time before God changes your circumstances and brings comfort and change to your life.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we must remember the good things God has done for us, for it will fill our hearts with joy. Our affliction are light and momentary as recorded in 2 Corinthians 4:17 which reads “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;”

Find time on a daily basis to pray Colossians 3:12 – “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

We hope you have been blessed by this topic on Psalm 13 – How long O Lord.

Who is the son of Jesus?

Jesus was neither married nor in any earthly relationship. He was born of the spirit hence didn’t belong in the earthly realm. He took the earthly form to set the captives free and to take away our sins so that we all might be saved from eternal destruction. So do not let anyone deceive you that He had a wife and fathered some children, that is utterly and completely wrong.

Where in the Bible if you have seen me you have seen the Father?

This can be found in John 14:9 – Jesus replied, Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and yet you still don’t know who I am? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father! So why are you asking me to show him to you?
