10 Tips on how to organize your fridge – Is your fridge a cold mess, and you don’t even know what’s growing old way at the back, and there never seems to be space for anything. Well, this post is to motivate you to get your messy, disorganized fridge nice and tidy.
A healthy balanced diet starts with how much attention we pay to food at home. We store most of the food we eat at home in our refrigerator; hence, the need to organize food in the fridge becomes more critical.
If you follow these ten tips, be rest assured that you will have the fridge of your dream.
1) Lazy Susan
With lazy susan, you simply rotate it to see what you have in your fridge. You don’t have to move everything out of the way if you want something from the very back.
2) Mason Jars
Mason jars come in various sizes and are used for a variety of things. You can use them for decanting things like margarine, jams, and jellies and many more items. Many people don’t like to see their fridge with a mismatch of different jars and containers, hence why mason jars are so important. Even though it’s unnecessary, it’s a good practice labeling the jars’ top since it’s sometimes hard to tell what’s inside. You may also think of labeling the jar’s bottom with the expiry dates of each food item using masking tape. Another neat trick is using the parmesan lid, which fits nicely with a regular mason jar.
Mason jars are also great for meal preps because it keeps everything nice and fresh. You can, at the beginning of the week, chop up a bunch of fruits, vegetables, onions etc and put them in the jars so you can easily use them during cooking or mealtime without having to chop each item every single day. So when cooking, you simply grab the jar you need and quickly cook since everything is prepped already. Or when making lunches for your kids, the veggies and fruits are already prepped, making it easy for you to put together a school meal quickly.
3) Squeeze Bottles
Squeeze bottles are great for decanting all your condiments and storing them in the fridge. They are suitable for Ketchup, Soy, BBQ, Dijon, Mustard, Mayo, Hot Sauce and a few others. Whatever it is that you have in your fridge that can be squeezed into these bottles will make such a difference. The squeeze bottles not only look good in the fridge, but they take up so much less space. Other bottles are of different shapes and sizes and sometimes are half empty, and they’re in the fridge forever while taking up so much space. Replacing these large bottles with a squeeze bottle will make a considerable difference. You can also label your squeeze bottles with custom vinyl labels and on the bottom, use masking tape for the expiry dates.
4) Can Dispenser
A can dispenser is perfect for storing various kinds of can drinks in the fridge. These dispensers allow you to stack cans in a small space, whilst still having access to your beverages.
5) Egg Containers
First, get rid of the egg cartons because some of this egg cartons do look terrible. Also, with the cartons, you don’t tend to see how many eggs are left until you open it. Clear egg containers do come in handy as they help you to store the eggs neatly in the fridge.
Some people prefer to have two clear egg containers so they can store in one container fresh eggs and other container boiled eggs which you can eat throughout the week.
You can also use a glass bowl to store your eggs. The good thing about this is that you don’t have a carton to open each time you need an egg. You can grab the eggs with one hand, and also see how many eggs you have left.
6) Defrost Container
Its always good to have defrosting container as it serves as a reminder that you need to defrost something. It also holds all those liquids whenever you’re defrosting things in the fridge overnight. You may necessarily keep this Container in the refrigerator because it does take up a lot of space, so use it whenever you have something to defrost.
7) Rubbermaid FreshWorks Containers
Rubbermaid FreshWorks containers are great food saver storage containers because they keep produce fresh for longer periods like berries, parsley, lettuce and many more. These containers are simply plastics, and on the bottom, there’s this little piece of plastic that keeps everything elevated. Look for items that may have mold in them and remove them before storing them.

How to store your food in fridge
Please note that will vary depending on the type of fridge that you have and size of fridge.
The temperature here is between 0 °C to 4 °C. Seafood, meat, sausages, dairy products such as milk, cream cheese and yoghurt, and egg preparations should be placed here.
This section temperature is between 4 °C to 6 °C. Here you can have your cooked meats, ripe vegetables, sausages and fruit, heavy cream or sour cream, unpasteurized and cooked cheese and all preparations such as pasta, rice, and nuts stored.
The drawer layer as a temperature above 6 °C and is the ideal space for storing your fruits, fresh vegetables and tubers.
The door has an average temperature of about 5 °C. Ketchup, jam, mayonnaise, mustard, eggs, spices, butter, juices and liqueurs, parmesan and sausages should be placed here.
The temperature in the freezer averages around -20 ºC. This is the ideal place to stock up on all the foods you won’t eat in the short term, such as meat, fish, seafood and burgers, beef and many more. Frozen vegetables and fruits are also stored here, and of course products and foods that need to be frozen, such as sorbets, ice cream and others.
In the freezer, the temperatures in the different compartments are the same, so you can add as much food as you like.
